The excitement of going back home

Tuesday Treadmill Treats

The excitement of going back home.

I grew up in upstate New York and as much as I hated it growing up there, I truly appreciate it now.

We moved up there from the Bronx, all of our family still lived in the city.

I thought the city was it, the place to be yet somehow my parents stuck us in butt fuck Egypt. With all the trees and streams and red necks, what were they thinking?

The one saving grace was that my mom who was always a city girl was home sick a lot, so every weekend as all the city people drove upstate, we were heading back into the city.

It gave me more of a love for the fast life, the lights, the city life that I desperately wanted to be part of.

I hated this small town, were everyone knew your business and each other.

I wanted more and as soon as I could, I jumped at the chance to move to Florida, at least they had Miami a real city, they had warm weather, anything had to be better than this small crappie place.

See things look so different when your young, you don’t see the big picture. I didnt realize that I would miss the mountains, the rivers, the fields. I didn’t realize people actually knew your name and cared about you because you were neighbors. All the things I thought hated when I moved 1500 miles away, somehow I missed.

I missed my friendships from childhood, I missed hiking in the mountains, I  missed calling a neighbor for a hand, I missed all I  thought I hated.

The more and more I came home, the more I realized how much I loved this place.

When I plan a trip home now, I am so excited to be here, I can’t wait to see all the trees, the mountains, the neighbors, the life of small town living.

My dream is to be a snow bird, yes like all the old people summers upstate and winters in sunny Florida, the best of both worlds, truly.

I am working on that dream as we speak…put it out there…nothing is impossible if you believe!

So today my friends don’t always assume the grass is greener on the other side, sometimes it just looks greener but its just painted on..home will always be where the heart is.
