I will always be a New Yorker

Tgif Treadmill Treats

I will always be a New Yorker no matter where I live, I will always be a New Yorker.

Yes, I have lived in Florida for 28 years and don’t get me wrong there is not a more beautiful place than the beaches there. I love the warm winters and the way we can wear shorts all year long and the most important thing there is no snow and bone chilling cold. But if I end up here another 30 years I will still and always be a New Yorker.

I remember growing up in this small and I thought, hick town.

My family all lived in the city, my mom grew up in Harlem, her whole family lived in the Bronx, my dads whole family lived in Long Island. Every weekend when all the city people were rushing up to the country, we were running into the city.

I loved the city, the lights, the action, the plays, museums, the music, to me nothing compared to it, that was until I fell in love with a country boy and my eyes were opened to things I never knew existed. He showed me waterfalls so beautiful it took your breathe away, streams were while you fished, fish swam past your legs and made me scream. Hikes on the mountains, picking blueberries and black berries. He took me swimming in the lakes and camping by babbling brooks. He taught me how to shoot an gun and how to ride a motorcycle, how to drive a old stick shift truck. We fished, we went mudding, we water skied.

I ate things I never thought I would, squirrel, deer, wild pig, even woodchuck, yeah I would have never thought so either. We enjoyed every bit of the outdoors there was and suddenly I was not such a city girl anymore, I was coming to love the country.

Now don’t get me wrong I still loved the city and jumped at every chance to go there and for some of you who remember, I thought I was Joan Collins from Dynasty including the hats with veils and all but I no longer thought this was such a hick town.

For six years I saw and did more with him then I could have ever imagined and I loved every minute of it. I so miss my small town, the wonderful people I grew up with, how everyone knew everyone and cared about them. I miss the nature and I so miss the mountains and so yes, I can go anywhere in the world and have, but New York will always be home and it will always have my heart.

So I am giving thanks for allowing me to be back “home” yet again.

I smile knowing my girls love these two places as much as I do and I am so glad I could show them the both sides of how I grew up and why I love it so much.

So today my friends, I am in my happy place, smelling the cool crisp mountain air, driving through the countryside around winding, curvy roads with the windows open and the radio blasting, hanging out with people that know me since childhood….Yes, I am happy to be home.

Hometown friends

Hump day Treadmill Treats

Hometown friends

There is nothing like home town friends, people that you grew up with, that know you better than anyone else and still love you.

As I sit at this airport yet again waiting to board a plane to go home, I cant help but think of this.

This weekend will be having a home town reunion, including a concert, rafting, hiking, dancing and old school reunion party at our favorite park.

See I come from a small town and it was

different than any other small town, we were tight, we were raised opened minded, we took care of each other and still do. So l am always excited to see friends that knew all my secrets and still like me.

When we see each other it’s as if no time has went by at all, we are back in the home town groove in no time.

There is nothing like friends you grew up with, you can talk about things you never have to explain, like

“The well” others would ask “Did you drink from it? Is it on your property? What is it?”

We all know, it was an old well we use to hang out and party at. Or “I’ll meet you at the launch” Anyone else would say “What launch? Kennedy space center” or when we say Swinging bridge “Is that a bridge? Does it swing??”

No, it’s the boat launch at the lake, swinging bridge was the lake, but we have no need to explain, we get it.

We remember you with hair, braces and acne. We remember your first love, we knew how strict your parents were and who’s house we could hang out, these are the things that keep us bonded to each other.

There are a close group of friends who are now like family to me and yes, I know I go home a lot…it’s part of my soul, the mountains, the air, the rivers and lakes, the people…

So it will be five days of “the big chill” style, where we will be in sync with each other again and realize how very blessed we were to grow up in this small town with such wonderful small town people and even if we are scattered across the country we will always be connected by growing up here.

So yes, I am going home again…to laugh about past memories and to make new memories with the people who know me best.

Today my friends remember what is truly important in your life, it’s family, friends and living in the moment, knowing how blessed you are and being grateful for all of that and all of the wonderful people who make your life, this amazing journey that it is.

Your words create your world

Tuesday Treadmill Treats

Your words become your world

I am a true believer in these words and I am living proof this works.

All you have to do is believe, sounds simple right? Because it is, you are what you speak, the law of attraction, so a man speak it, so he is. Yes, there are many ideas about this out there and they all work.

Look if you walk around saying I will never be anything, I can’t do that or this will never happen, it won’t.

You have already trained your mind to believe it, you set it out to the universe and it is so.

I never gave up, even in my darkest moments, I held on to my dreams. Even as my world crashed around me, I believed beyond a shadow of a doubt that it would happen, even when it didn’t seem possible, I believed it was.

In my darkest times, I always prayed and asked for certain things. I visualized what my life was going to look like, even down to what my home would look like.

I spoke the words over my life….I am successful, I am peaceful, I am blessed, I am joyous and all of this came to pass.

I believed it even while tears were streaming down my face and my heart was breaking.

I knew he had greater things for me, that I would just have to hold on, to keep giving thanks, even if it was just waking me up.

I started off small, I gave thanks for my girls and their health, my health, but I made myself be grateful for something, every day.

I never gave up on my dreams, I could see what I wanted my life to be, I could feel it, smell it and touch as if it was real to me.

Yes, I did my part I read books to try to improve myself, I took classes, I researched the things I want to do and become and then I left it to God and the universe.

I had people around me who also believed, that is important, get rid of the na sayers, you dont need that negativity in your life.

You need people who believe, I can remember a girlfriend who told me she prayed on a $5000 raise, she believed it as if it already happened and guess what? It did happen!

I saw my praise leader, who prayed over a illness that was threatening his vocal cords, this man who sings like an angel, he saw himself well, he believed that he would get better and he did!

I saw a women at my church with stage 4 cancer, that was giving month’s to live, she believed she was cured and guess what? She was!

There are so many stories like this, hell The secret made billions of dollars telling people how this works….are all those people crazy?

No, it works, I still do this, I can see me on stage speaking to thousands of people.

I envision myself speaking to Tony Robbins, Oprah and Tyler Perry about my Ny Times bestselling books, about a movie of my life story.

I see myself traveling around the world and being an international blogger, just as if I was there and it was already happening.

I never give up, I have faith, even when I can’t see how it could happen, even when the dream seems too big, even when the years roll by, I hold on to my dream and know…this is coming, this will be a reality just like all the other things I envisioned for my life.

So today my friends, I am here to tell you, that yes, your words create your world, you can bring anything into realtiy, so remember to speak wisely!

Money vs happiness

Tgif Treadmill Treats

Money vs happiness, which do you pick?

A few years ago my friend came down here for a job interview and the question she left with in her mind was about the money they were offering her here.

Now I know money is important in our lives but how important? What if it’s about the quality of life versus the quantity of money?

Would you go for more money if your not happy where you are? If you just went to work day after day and came home, never to enjoy all the money your making, does that make it a great life?

What if you made less but you had friends, you did things, you got out, met new people, enjoyed your life, is that not worth more than the extra money?

We only have one life and most of us (women especially) give up half of our life for our families. We give it up for our children, to meet their needs, to make sure they are taken care of, to our spouses to try to make them happy, we gladly put our needs on the back burners to make sure their needs are met first.

But now they are grown and they have their own lives, now that we have given our all to everyone else, we are faced with the question, who am I? Is this what life is really about? There has to be more…

We are entitled to have a incrediable life, a life that is worth living but as I know first hand it is definitely not all about the money. Money does not buy you happiness, it may fill a never ending hole but it doesn’t fill your soul.

You need to fill your soul with what makes you happy, it might be friends, volunteering, the beach, but it has nothing to do with money or things, I can assure you of that!

I have many clients that have so much “stuff” clothes with tags, through out their closets, hundreds of pairs of shoes, designer purses and clothes, a big houses, fancy cars but at night they are alone and lonely. They hurt inside so bad they cry themselves to sleep, they have no one there for them, no real friends, no life but hey they have all that “stuff” to fill them up.

I know that feeling because I was one of them, I had the big life, I had all of the toys, the cars, the fancy vacations yet all the stuff couldn’t fill the hurt in my heart. I was still broken and sad… and no money in the world could fix me.

Is that the life you want? Filled with things that are meaningless or do you want a life filled with joy?

I chose to walk away, I chose my happiness over the money and let me tell you, there has never been one day that I’ve ever regreted my decision.

So today my friends, remember the choice is yours, remember that  money does not buy happiness, but if you live your purpose filled life, you will be taking care of your real needs. You life will be filled with love, peace and joy and that my friends, that is truly priceless.

My friends are my family

Thursday Treadmill Treats

My friends are my family

This last weekend was an a amazing weekend for me. I got to spend it with the people I love, the people I actually like to hang out with.

Look so many of us, do things because we are obligated to, even though we might want to be somewhere else. Now your all laughing because you know it’s true, like an in law gathering, or your office thing or your spouse’s friend’s house that you’d rather not be there but you have to go.

At this stage of my life I chose to only hang out with people I like, people who make me laugh, who bring something to my life, like peace or joy.

I chose to hang out with positive people, people who spirits reflect mine, people on the same wave lenght.

I don’t know how much time I am blessed with on this earth but I don’t want to waste a moment of it.

I want to hang out with amazingly different people, people with different ideas than mine, different cultures, I want to learn and absorb myself in differences, open my mind.

This weekend was the perfect example of that on Friday night I got to hang out with my church singles group, a diversed group of singles, most who are much younger than me, but that keeps me young… learning and listening to them and hopefully mentoring to them with my life testimony.

On Saturday I got to hang with a girlfriend who is a pastor but is the most real person you will ever meet…we got to catch up, talked about family, friends, faith and life. She is one of these people that fills your soul with love and laughter.

That afternoon I got to spend time with my daughter’s best friend’s dad. We were co room parents and in the PTA together when they were in kindergarten and they are still best friends today.

We got to catch up, one drink turned into 4, turned into dinner, turned into shooting pool, then watching a band and dancing till 2 am!

My side’s still hurt, nothing like another New Yorker to get you, to know what your talking about, to share so many memories with.

On Sunday I got to see a high school friend, we were tight as thiefs back in the dancing all night days.

We got to have a bbq and day of swimming with another couple who are amazing friends of ours.

Yes, all these different types of people, different backgrounds, different ways we’ve met and stayed friends over all these years. These wonderful people that enrich my life so much just with their presence.

And to top it off a perfect beach day on the 4th of July with yet another group of friends…. Wow even I am amazed how blessed I am to have so many incredible people in my life.

So today my friends, remember you can never have enough friends, you can never stop learning, stop opening your mind to different people, different types of friendship, this is what makes you grow as a person…tolerance, compassion and knowledge.

So don’t waste your time being where you don’t want to be…be around friends that are your family!

As I always say my friends are the family I chose for myself.

My love to all of you that made this weekend totally amazing!!

Happy 4th of July

Tuesday Treadmill Treats

Happy 4th of July

Today so many of us are off, we will be at the beach, or the lake or at pools across our country. We will be barbecuing with family and friends, we will be drinking and laughing and partying but how many will really think about why we have this day off? That is day celebrates our freedom, our country’s freedom.

We are the home of the free…but only because of the brave, the one’s who fought for us, for that right.

We can not ever forget that nor should we ever, especially during this terrible time in our country. Where racism has reared its ugly head again, when we have a “President” that at any minute may put us in World War 3, that seems to be taking us down that road to dictatorship, where we will lose all of our rights.

Yes, this fourth of July we need to remember how important it is to truly have our freedom.

We need to stand up as a nation and be heard.

We need to speak to the powers that be, that we will always be heard, that our voices matter because that is what so many men and women of this mighty country died for…our rights, our voices.

We will never be truly free until we all have the same rights, women, men, blacks, whites, Muslims, Christians, straight, gay or in between, we all bleed red. We all want to be loved, to love, to protect our children, to give them and our families the best we can. We want to walk down the street and not worry about our safety because of our choices.

We want the freedom of speech, we want to be able to speak out against the wrongs of the world, we are the land of the free…these should be everyone’s rights.

So today my friends, in the middle of our good times or maybe tonight when your holding your loved ones watching the fireworks in the sky above, will you stop and say a prayer of thanks to all of those who fought and continue to fight for our rights to be free, to be able to speak our minds freely and to give thanks that we have these rights because of them.

I would like to say a personal thank you to all the service people out there…there are no words to thank you enough for stepping up to protect our rights, today and everyday…

This day is for you ♡♡♡

God keeps his word

Treadmill Treats Monday Message

God keeps his word

Recently while I have been going through my latest storm I realized this. Yes, I should have known this all along as a Christian but as a human going through the storm, sometimes it is hard.

I have gotten confirmation after confirmation about this and this is what I’ve learned:

1-God never waivers in his word, he is the same yesterday, today and will be the same forever.

2-God is faithful…

And he will not fail you..people will fail you, you will even disappoint yourself but God is and will always be faithful.

3-We have not always been been faithful to God….we make promises like, “Please God if you get me out of this….I promise….”

And then he came through but you didn’t keep your end of the bargain. But he will always keep his word, he will always be faithful to you.

Don’t complicate your faith journey ….do what God says and he will be faithful.

There will be times you will feel all alone, that you think that God doesn’t hear you, but if you are faithful you will know that he is always there for you. Remember….

“If we are faithless…he remains faithful”

You have to chose to believe, you have to chose to believe that he is a waymaker, you have to chose to know that he is always there, you have to choose to believe in your faith, each and every day.

Whatever God is taking you through, it is all for his glory!!

Sometimes you have to go through some stuff, sometimes there are storms and you think, why God? But you have to go through it, to build your faith, it’s to give you a testimony for others to see, so they can know what God has done for you and know… “If he did it for you, he can do it for me….”

Sometimes it’s hard, it’s like your trying to open up your safe, your doing the combination but it’s not opening, you try again and again but still nothing. Your getting frustrated and mad and it’s then when you remember you changed the combination.

You dont understand why things are not working for you, its because your still trying to use the old stuff, the old combination… Staying with the people that should have been gone, opening the doors that God had closed shut, when all the time, God gave you new instructions, a new combination..let it go… You had the new combination the whole time…

So today my friends remember… some of you are trying to board heavens airplane on someone else’s ticket…

You need to purchase your own, you need to do the work to get there, you need to trust him, you need to testify, you need to shine the light he gave to you onto others.

So repeat after me… Today, I declare that the Lord is my strength and it’s his power that is within me. I declare that his grace is sufficient to keep me strong throughout my weakest moments. I declare that I will trust that the Lord will keep me, find my place and make me strong in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.

Remember God always keeps his word.
