7 spiritual self help tips

7 spiritual self help tips

Here’s the thing, you can’t control what people say about you, but you can control how you respond to what people say about you.
You need to protect and empower your hearing, either your listening to them or your listening to God.

Romans 10.17 says
Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God.

You can change your environment by what you hear…Don’t listen to anything that is negative, nothing that puts you down, that cuts you to the core, people can and will be haters, they can be jeoulus, they can be hurt and we know that hurt people, hurt people.

I no longer watch Tv, I don’t want to hear a hour of hate, of depressing news, of negativity, I chose not to hear that, not to have that in my life. I am current with what’s going on with what I want to hear, when and how much I want to hear.

You need to know that change for the better can happen in all areas in your life. But you must be mindful of the voice you listen to.

So here are 7 spiritual self help steps to practice:

1. Walk by faith, even when you can’t see.

Even when the storms come, when it’s so dark and you don’t think you can hold on, hold on to that faith.

2. God never fails.

God is not a man, he cannot lie, he will always do what he says he will.

3. God can turn it around in an instant.

Yes, in one day, one second he can change your life, but remember it’s on his time, not yours.

4. You are more blessed than you realize

Yes, it can and probably has been worst, be grateful of where you’ve been, have gratitude for what you have now.

5. God’s mercy is bigger than any of your mistakes.

He is a forgiving God and thank him for that because we are human and we screw up all the time but he will forgive us time and time again.

6. Always believe in God because there are some things that not even Google can answer.

He is the ultimate Google, he has all the answers, to all of life’s questions. He knows the begining and the end, ask him, go to him, he will tell you what you need to know.

7. Hard times will consistently be there, so will Christ.

Yes, even being Christian will not stop your problems, you will still have hard times and if your like me you will cry out “Why God why?” But he will be there, he is always there for you.

So what are you hearing on a daily basis? What are you listening to? Who do you have in your circle?
This weekend I was blessed enough to have dinner with a bunch of people who I took my last conference with. These were women who are making a difference in people’s lives, they are strong, positive women and the energy was amazing but I also know if your with negative people, they will suck your energy, you will feel drained and that is the difference, know the difference and then chose wisely.

Protect what you are hearing…whatever or whoever is feeding you, make sure they are feeding you with positive things, positive thoughts. This is your life, you get to chose who to let in, who is sharing your time, your precious time, be the boss and fire some people. Even when they are family, that doesn’t give them a free pass to shit on you, to kill your dreams, to speak negativity into your life.

So today my friends remember, you get to chose the life you want to live, to chose what you hear, what you listen to, who gets your time and energy, so chose wisely and follow these 7 spiritual steps to change your life.

“Be the change you want to see”

“And just when the caterpillar thought his life over…he turned into a beautiful butterfly”

The power of forgiveness

The power of forgiveness

This week while we were promoting the documentary I was blessed to be in, a few people ask us about forgiveness so I thought it was time to write about it yet again.

I remember talking to my cousin on the phone, she had mentioned my blog about my best friend that said I forgive her. I had forgiven her for borrowing money and then never talking to me again.

She wanted to know why I was letting her off the “hook” after all the crappie things she did to me? Why would I forgive her? She went on to say, now in her eyes she’s off the hook, she doesn’t have to take responsibility for robbing me and all the other hurt she caused me.

My cousin was pissed, she is one of the few people in my life I can count on to have my back, so I knew she was saying this because she was coming from this place of love and concern for me and believe me, I am grateful for her and all of her concerns.

I told her it wasn’t about my best friend, it was for me, but she wasn’t haven’t any of it. “No, she doesnt get a free pass and you don’t have to apologize for writing about the hurt she caused you. Or for the fact none of your other “so called” friends that didn’t take a stand for what was obviously right, yet none of them had the balls to back you or were even be there for you in your time of need”
Oh, she was on a roll now and rightfully so but I am over all of it and tried again to explain my stand on this.

I told her about the time I was driving my new Mustang, the tee tops were off (Yes, this was the 80’s) the music was blasting, it was a beautiful spring day and I was truly happy, driving and singing out loud until the moment I saw the man who raped me, my whole demeanor changed. I became angry, I had such hatred in my heart, my body changed too, I was tense, my hands gripped the wheel like I was strangling him, everything changed in that one second.
All I wanted to do was jump the curb and run him and his sickening smiling face over and then back up and run him over again!

He was walking out of a store with someone, he was laughing, not a care in the world, he obviously wasn’t thinking of me or the fact that I hated him or even cared if I hated him. No, he was living his life.

The only person this was effecting was me, he was ruining my life over and over again because I was letting him.
At that moment I knew I had to do something as this was going on for 5 years, all this anger, resentment and hatred, it was eating ME alive, not him. I had to let it go or I was never going to move on with my life.

That day changed my life, I sat down and wrote him a six page letter. I poured my heart out, about how could he do this, he knew me, he knew I had just lost my dad, he took away my virginity, which he knew I was saving for my high school sweetheart. I spoke about the horrible abortion I had to go through, about all the hatred I felt for all these years. I spoke of my drug and alcohol addiction that this had caused me to try to drown my pain with and the fact that I couldn’t trust anymore, this one event changed my whole life and it was all his fault.

Yes, I let it all go and when I was done I told him I forgave he, that it didn’t make what he did to me okay, that was for him to live with, to deal with, with God. This was for me because I couldn’t love again, I couldn’t live again truly until I let go of the hate and so I forgave him and I took back my life.

I never sent him this letter, this was for me as well, to put all my feelings in writing to see them and then let them go. I burnt the letter in a fire afterwards and just the the Phoenix, I was reborn. (Maybe another reason I so wanted to walk on fire years later)

I know me and my cousin will never see eye to eye on this subject and its okay, we all have different opinions, we all believe in different things, that’s what makes the world go around.

I am grateful for her and the fact that she will always tell me like it is, that she always has my back and that she truly loves me.

I am happy with my decision and I am again at peace inside of me, wether or not she feels like she got off the hook, wether or not others walked away because I spoke out or didn’t come to my defense, no longer matters, see God sometimes closes doors that need to be closed for your own good, not everyone gets to come for the whole ride. Its not about all of them, its about me and my life, always has been, always will be.

So today my friends, remember this is your life don’t go around with anger and hatred in your heart, let it go. Learn the lessons you are supposed to learn, forgive and then reval in the power of forgiveness.

“Be the change you want to see”

“And just when the caterpillar thought his life over…he turned into a beautiful butterfly”

What I’ve learned at the National Achievers congress

National achievers Congress

I speak all the time about changing your life, but to change you have to take action.

You have to do things, learn things and grow in order to change.
For me it’s about constantly learning, I read books, I watch YouTube videos, I go to these conferences. I am putting all these things into my brain to make myself a better person, to change what I don’t like, to improve what I need to improve on. To step out of my own box, step outside of fear in order to change.

So here are some incredible things I’ve learned yesterday by some of the top people in their fields, I hope you enjoy them and learn from them as much as I did.

So over and over the one thing we heard from all of them was this:

“The number one thing is to believe in yourself!!”

Robert Herjavec
Entrepreneur and Shark Tank investor told us:

To become great at anything you must do these steps:

1. You have to believe your going to be successful
2. You have to take Action
3. You have to believe in the Results
4. You have to have a Purpose, that is greater than yourself

“Doesn’t matter where you came from, how smart you are, it only matters the action, that you take”
“The biggest lie is what you tell yourself”

Gary Vaynerchuck Entrepreneur, social media Guru spoke about:

“Dreams are great but it will never happen unless you put the work behind it”

“Lack of knowledge leads to fear. Fear is the dark room where dreams don’t get developed”

“If you have nothing to lose, you have nothing to fear”

“Excuses are the drugs not to do”

“I don’t complain because I don’t expect anything anyone”
(Big one for me that I am learning, not everyone is going to do what you will do!)

Doug Nelson
Entrepreneur, stock market Guru said:

What is your financial blueprint?

Mental & Emotional & Spiritual
= cause
Physical = effect

You cannot fix money problems with money, you always will have the same mindset until you learn how to change it.

1. Thoughts
2. Feelings
3. Actions
How you think, how you feel around money is going to be your results. Stop chasing fruits and focus on the roots.

Tony Robbins told us:

The most powerful way to learn is emergson.
If you just listen you remember 10 %
If you take notes you will remember 50%
If you take notes and put energy into it, you rememeber 80 %

You need that hunger and drive to change your life.
When your in the flow… we know it, we feel it, it feels right.

We are the only creatures on earth that can think a thought and be happy, think a angry thought and be angry, be grateful, be sad…we can think any thoughts and change our whole bodies.
So because we don’t want to take ownership for things in our lives, we blame others, we become a victim in our own lives.

Your past does not equal your future.
Have you ever failed? Did you try again?
What was your reasons for failing?
Not enough money, energy,
drive, knowledge… there are a thousands of excuses.
They are all resources…

Failure is never a lack of resources, it’s a lack of resourcefulness

Emotions are the ultimate resource.
Expand your threshold of control.
Look inside, see the gifts God has given you, come into a beautiful place, a place of gratefulness, of peace, of love, of joy and you can end your own suffering.
If your angry, sad, frustrated, change your space by thinking thoughts of gratefulness, of peace or joy.

It’s the 90 second rule.
For 90 seconds when you mad, pissed, depressed stop and for 90 seconds think of all the things that bring you joy, that your grateful for and you state will change, guaranteed.

There were so many more things I learned as I was there from 8 am to 8 pm. Yes, all day, I took off from work, because you need to always feed your brain, your spirit and your soul. You need to learn in order to grow and like Tony said if your not learning or growing, your dying.

So today my friends remember, you are never too old to learn, to change, to grow, start today, read a book, watch inspirational videos, books on tape, go to a conference, open your mind, decided to change what’s not working, its up to you and like I say at the end of every blog…
“Be the change you want to see”

“And just when the caterpillar thought his life over…he turned into a beautiful butterfly”

Joyful people pratice gratefulness

Joyful people practice gratefulness

I don’t usually watch TV but I love Oprah Super Soul Sunday, she had on a guest Dr.Brene Brown and she had wrote a book she researched about gratefulness. It said that the most joyful people practice gratefulness, wow Oprah light bulb moment!

I know this to be true, I have found joy and peace in my life that I have never had before and the one thing about having it is that I am so very grateful. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t give thanks and I don’t give the credit to God. At times I am so very grateful, it will bring me to tears, it overcomes me, I can’t say it enough times.

Yes, I was in a dark place for many years and even there I tried looked for something to be grateful for. You need to go through the day looking for things to be grateful for.

Be grateful for the small moments, having dinner with your kids, a warm breeze, the sunrise, a kind word from someone, start small if you feel you can’t be grateful for everything.

Gratitude is a practice, be grateful for the ordinary moments. Be present in them, enjoy every second, don’t ask when will the other shoe drop, just feel blessed at that moment.

These are a few of Dr Brown’s quotes from her book about gratitude:
To be a whole hearted person that is cultivating authenticity:

*Letting go of what people think.

I no longer care what people say, I wore a mask for too many years, I am happy with me, God is happy with me, thats all that matters.

Cultivating self compassion:

*Letting go of perfectionism.

I tried for years to be perfect and it literally almost killed me, there is no such thing as perfectionism, your human, you have flaws, its okay.

Cultivating a resilient spirit:

*Letting go of powerlessness.

Yes, you will fall down, get back up, its okay I write about my failures each and every day, yet I still keep going with a positive attitude.

*Cultivating gratitude and joy:
Letting go of scarcity and fear.

This was a big one for me, fear ruled my life, I didn’t like change, I stayed 20 years in a horrible situation because of fear. When you give it over to God, to the universe, to who ever you believe in and trust, it is then you can find peace and joy in your life.

You can’t find joy when your beating it to the finish line by saying “Oh when is the next shoe going to drop? This is too good, something bad will happen” No… live in this moment, let go of fear, have faith! Live life large!

So today my friends, practice gratefulness, start when you wake up, say thank you for waking me up, thank you I can walk to the bathroom, thank you I have a home and hot water, start small, practice every day and before long you will be grateful for everything you have, every moment in your life.

“Be the change you want to see”

“And just when the caterpillar thought his life over…he turned into a beautiful butterfly”

Rape is rape and it is never okay

Rape is rape and it will never be okay

Recently I have been part of this documentary called This is rape series, we came together with a bunch of survivors of rape and sexual molestation. We are  talking about this because we want to raise awareness to let everyone know that rape is rape, when a woman says no it’s no, period.

I am outspoken about this subject because it is near and dear to my heart and even after all these years, it seems we are still in the dark ages about this topic.

I remember the Stanford University student who raped a girl, he was a typical rich kid, handsome and privileged, so because of this people felt we should give him a free pass from raping someone?

His father thought so, even to publicly say it was only 15 minutes, like because his son was fast, it didn’t count? Are you frigging serious?

That 15 minutes will replay over and over in that poor young girls mind, millions of times, she will remember this 10 years from now, 20 years, even 40 years from now, believe me when I tell you this.

Its been almost 40 years for me and every time I hear a sickening story like this, it brings me right back to that day, like it was yesterday.

I can remember every detail, every emotion, even down to what the grass smelled like when he was done with me and threw me out of the car on the side of the road. How my lungs burned as I ran and ran for hours afterwards, how my skin burned from trying to scrub him off of me over and over until I collapsed in the bottom of the tub, my tears mixing with the now cold water, how I laid there for God knows how long with tears racking my body, how his face cursed my dreams night after night.
No, that “15 minutes” took over my life for years and years to come.

It took years of drug and alcohol addiction, years of guilt for me because I knew him and took a ride with him, I smoked a joint with him. Years of hatred towards him, years of being promiscuous, years of therapy. Until I finally came to forgiveness because I knew I couldn’t move on without doing that, it was more for me than him, believe me.

All of the people I have been blessed to meet through this project say the same thing over and over. How it affected their lives 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 years later, how it affected their relationships and their self-esteem.

But no matter how many years later, it is for all of us, when we hear of this or Bill Cosby, even though we are at an amazing place in our lives right now, we still go there, it still brings us to that place, it’s just how it is.

Why is it still okay to justify this behavior? Why do we still have the good olde boys club in place letting this still happen? Why aren’t more people crying out to stop these injustices?

If it was your mother, your sister, your wife, you better believe men would step up faster and louder but its a  them, not us, attitude today, so many people think, it could never happen to us, wake up!

This is not just about walking in the park and someone jumps out and rapes you issue, this is a common problem. Especially in our colleges, with over privileged boys not having to own their actions. Famous celebrities and men with power that think they can get away with it, this is everywhere. It could be your uncle, your grandfather, your father even, and as I learned even your aunt, your babysitter as it happens to men as well.

When will we realize when a women says no, it means no period, end of story! When will we realize that when you touch someone against their will, it is sexual abuse.

Doesn’t matter if she knows him, doesn’t matter if they are dating, doesn’t even matter even if you are married, it is a women’s body and her choice. When she says no, thats it, cross that line and you buddy, become a common rapist, there is no sugar coating that!

So I say to this rich, untouchable Stanford University rapist dad and the many other people who feel this way, it’s not “just 15 minutes” it will never be 15 minutes for this young girl and for the rest of us survivors and it will never be okay, never!

So today my friends, stand up for what’s right, stand up for a women’s choice, speak out against this and the many other unthinkable crimes that are going on all over this world to women.
Do what’s right…this is never okay.

“Be the change you want to see”

“And just when the caterpillar thought his life over…he turned into a beautiful butterfly”
